How to avoid news overload

Keeping on top of professional news and information is a constant challenge – and even assessing the many news reader apps on the market can be very time consuming. So our IT experts have done it for you.

The Pulse newsreader for mobile devices aggregates all your favourite news sources from around the web into a tiled mosaic, making it easy to read and friendly to navigate with a touch interface, says Graeme Moore, IT Infrastructure Engineer at recoveriescorp.

“Pulse’s major advantage over some other newsreaders is that the article content is downloaded to your mobile device with the headlines, so you can still read them when you are away from a data connection,” Mr Moore says.

“It’s considered one of the best news reader applications with over 4 million users worldwide and has won many design awards. The tiled interface is easy to navigate and makes it simple to skip over the news articles that don’t interest you.”

Pulse is one of only 50 apps that have made it to Apple’s Hall of Fame.

While the Pulse featured sites are often American-focused, most major news publications from around Australia are available when using their search function. You can then just click to add them into your own news feed, making it easy to check international and domestic headlines in one location.

Pulse works on smartphones and tablets, and is ideal when you need to keep up with a lot of developing news on technical or professional websites.
