Best apps for busy executives

Now there’s a virtual fitness coach who can keep you up to speed on your daily walk or run – and it doesn’t cost you a cent. All you need is your smartphone and a free app which can track your activity, how far you went, how long it took, your pace or speed and even how many calories you burned.

The RunKeeper app is highly recommended by Jeff Sussman, recoveriescorp’s Chief Technology Officer. He’s been using the Walk option for six weeks, and gets an update every five minutes from his virtual coach on the distance he’s walked and his average pace.

The RunKeeper coach lets him know if he’s ahead or behind, and his early morning circuit of 4km has him walking at less than 9 minutes a kilometre with a PB of 8 minutes and 40 seconds, equating to nearly 7km/h.

“You can sync your data to the RunKeeper website, view a history of all your activities and check cumulative totals of all your statistics. Bragging rights are easy, as you can just post your information to Facebook and Twitter,” Mr Sussman says.

“I never  thought I’d develop a relationship with a smartphone app, but RunKeeper really is like having a coach accompany me!”
